DEM Calculator 1.6

The DEM Calculator is a supplementary tool designed to assist clinicians in administering and analyzing the Developmental Eye Movement (DEM) Test. Its primary purpose is to streamline the scoring process, thereby saving valuable time for testers by automatically computing the child's number naming speed and saccadic eye movement capabilities based on age or grade.

The free version of the application permits assessment of children aged 6 or in grade 1. An in-app purchase is available to unlock full functionality across ages 6-13 and grades 1-8.

Operable via a straightforward, single-screen interface, the app facilitates rapid decision-making within busy clinical environments. Its availability on smartphones ensures that it can be conveniently accessed at any time.

The application features a user-friendly process: enter the child's age or grade, initiate the timer at test commencement, and document errors such as transpositions, additions, omissions, or substitutions of numbers in real-time.

Upon completing Test A, B, and C, the DEM Calculator computes percentile ranks for Vertical Time, Horizontal Time, Errors, and Ratios. Results flagged in orange indicate scores at risk, while those highlighted in red signify abnormal findings.

The child's overall response classification is based on their ratio assessment and can be categorized as follows: Type 1: Average Performance Type 2: Oculomotor Dysfunction Type 3: Poor Automaticity of Number Naming Type 4: Combined Deficiencies in Automaticity and Oculomotor Skills

It is important to recognize that this application serves solely as an adjunct tool and does not replace comprehensive clinical judgment. The DEM Calculator was developed in collaboration with Bernell Corporation.
